Description: Welcome to People and Places, a two-part introductory-to-intermediate studio drawing course that focuses on representation from direct observation. Our goal is to teach you how to draw and sketch the 3D world around us in 2D, using new ways of seeing and making your marks. You will learn about fundamental elements such as line, value, texture, shape, and space, and explore them within a variety of media. Through hands-on exercises and projects, you will create original work based on direct observation or reference images.

Materials List: Studio will provide pencil set, paper and drawing boards. In addition: If you would like your own drawing pad, tape-bound (9x12 is a good size, or 8.5 x 11). Strathmore 200 series is one option.

Additional Info: Nancy Hope is an Illustrator/Designer who teaches Illustration at the University of Minnesota College of Design. She has extensive experience in both digital and analog drawing and has earned numerous awards for her design and illustration work. Her drawing has been commissioned for editorial magazines, branding, animation, gift products, and children's books. Nancy holds a degree in Illustration and Design from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. She has also studied drawing, painting, and printmaking at St. Kate's/ Macalester College, and at a beautiful little Atelier in Paris. As a teacher, her objective is to foster an inclusive, collaborative, and energized classroom environment while inspiring and educating her students.
